The MUNISS 2023 Executive Team kindly invites you to the 16th annual Model United Nations Conference, held at the International School of Stuttgart, Germany from April 20th to April 23rd, 2023.
MUNISS offers an educational and challenging opportunity for students to grow in both character and knowledge. It allows students to reinforce the knowledge that is learned in the classroom, teaches students about current global issues, develops critical thinking skills, and aids in building confidence and leadership skills. For the past 16 years, we have had the pleasure of hosting delegates from all over the world and are looking forward to welcome, once again, a diverse group of delegates.
The chosen theme for this year's conference will be the balance and distribution of power in the world. We will focus on the UN Sustainable Development goal 16: “Peace Justice, and Strong Institutions.” The 17 sustainable development goals were created by the United Nations (UN) in 2015 and are intended to be achieved by 2030. Goal 16 aims to “Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.” (UN.org) In a world with power injustice perpetrated by governments and political leaders, what measures need to be put into place to ensure we live free from war and violence, and are guaranteed protection of freedom of speech? How can we ensure that we significantly reduce all forms of violence, as well as protect children from abuse, exploitation, and trafficking? How can we make sure there is an equal distribution of resources among governments and people? This SDG, its targets and the questions generated by it will be used as guidance for robust debate in each committee. The committees will vary in difficulty, providing delegates with a wide range of abilities and experience.
Fees:
Below you can see the participation fees for the conference. These will include lunches and snacks, all relevant conference materials, as well as train tickets for the whole duration of the conference. Once we have numbers for how many delegates, chairs, and directors are coming to MUNISS, we will send you (as directors) an invoice with the bill for your school, as well as our banking details. You will then pay through that.

Registration and Application:
To sign up for MUNISS 2023, please sign up as a school through this form. This form is due to be filled out by January 25th. We understand it is hard to get approval for trips, so please let us know if you are interested but unsure if you are approved to attend. We have attached a PDF of the invitation in this email as well. Once you have signed up as a school, please distribute this form to your delegates, so that we can have more information about them individually.
Furthermore, we encourage your more experienced delegates to consider becoming chairs or deputy chairs. We will offer chair training online before the conference, and this will allow your students to take on more of a leadership role. If you have any students interested in chairing, please have them fill out this form. Please note, they must be above 15 years old and that it requires a recommendation letter from the MUN director/supervisor. Please send these to muniss@issev.de.
Accommodation:
Due to COVID-19, we were not able to provide housing last year. However, this year we will be offering limited housing for delegates. If you do not wish to be housed, there are numerous youth hostels and budget hotels in and around Stuttgart. We have an accommodation booklet on our website where you can find hotels, restaurants, and information regarding the Stuttgart public transport system. You will not need to buy train tickets for the duration of the conference, as these are included in the participation fee. Please let us know if you have any questions about accommodation in Stuttgart. You will need to provide for your own breakfasts and dinners as a school, but lunches and snacks are provided during the conference.
